I took an evening river cruise when I was in Guangzhou recently and it was an amazing experience. I got my tickets at the counter located near the base of Canton Tower. The crew here was very helpful and polite and they spent time answering questions from tourists about the cruise itself. After getting the ticket, I was directed to the pier which is less than 10mins walk from the ticket counter. Despite the large crowd, the team at the pier was efficient and got all of us boarded quickly. Light refreshments was served onboard during the cruise. I sat at the top, open deck. If you're planning to take an Uber, don’t request it right at the main exit. Due to the traffic, drivers often can’t get through and may ask you to cancel. Instead, walk about 500 meters to the nearest intersection, where it’s much easier to catch a ride.
We only visited one Western-style restaurant, and the food was average at best—I'd give it 3 stars.
